The Story of Villiera Wines

TRADITION
Rooted in Tradition, Growing the Future
The story of Villiera Wines began in 1983 on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Founded as a family-run estate, the farm was built on a deep respect for the soil and a commitment to replanting classic and local varietals. This focus on terroir defined the brand’s core from the very first vine, establishing a foundation of quality and authenticity that remains our North Star today.
A pioneering spirit led to the early adoption of high-tech cellar facilities, allowing Villiera to become a specialist in both fine still wines and internationally acclaimed Cap Classique. Over the decades, this unique philosophy transformed the estate into one of the country’s most respected private wineries.
While our roots are in a family-owned legacy, our vision has always extended to the wider Villiera Family. We believe that a farm is only as strong as the people who nurture it. By embracing and empowering our dedicated staff, we have created an inclusive community that pours passion into every bottle bearing our name.
In 2023, Villiera joined Les Grands Chais de France, marking the beginning of an ambitious new era. We are currently revitalizing our cellar facilities and vineyards, blending our 40-year heritage with global expertise. As we upgrade our estate, we remain dedicated to unlocking the marvels of nature and growing the future of South African wine.
VALUES
Building from the Base
Villiera is anchored by five core principles: Fairness, Honesty, Ethics, Innovation, and a steadfast Family-Oriented culture. This foundation has established Villiera as a reliable and authentic brand, one that takes measured, pioneering steps while staying true to its roots. Our commitment to excellence is expressed through three enduring pillars: Cap Classique, Sustainability, and Deeply Held Values.
The journey continues as the estate enters an exciting next chapter under the ownership of Iwayini Pty Ltd. This transition is not an erasure of the past, but a dedicated evolution. We are building the future of the brand "from the base up," honoring a 40-year legacy of craftsmanship that is intrinsically tied to the Stellenbosch soil.
By remaining firmly rooted in the values that have always defined this land, we are creating a path forward that balances modern innovation with time-honored tradition. For us, being "family-oriented" means nurturing our people, our community, and our environment. It is a commitment to sustainability and integrity, a true reflection of the spirit literally and figuratively integrated into the earth on which Villiera stands.
