Villiera, recognised for producing outstanding Cap Classiques and a range of distinctive wines has achieved three Medals of Excellence in the Tim Atkin’s 2017 SA Special Report.

The highest scoring wine is the Villiera Monro Brut 2011 with 94 points. This Cap Classique bears a Grier family name and is Villiera’s Prestige Cuvee.  Made with maturation potential in mind, this rich creamy Cap Classique is produced only when conditions favour producing a fine sparkling wine.

The classical Villiera Tradition Brut NV is the second wine to break the 90-point barrier with a score of 91. Tradition Brut has been a hallmark in the Villiera stable, with the first vintage produced in 1984. This “Méthode Cap Classique” is a blend of red and white grapes displaying the full, balanced yeasty complexity synonymous with a wine made in this style.

Villiera Traditional Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2016 received a score of 90 points to earn a Medal of Excellence. The grapes used to produce this Chenin Blanc were from two trellised vineyards and one old bush vine block and was barrel aged for 4 months in 1st and 2nd fill French Oak.

The 2017 SA Special Report is award-winning British wine-writer and Master of Wine Tim Atkin‘s fifth annual guide on South Africa. He says "Overall, I am extremely impressed with the quality of what I tasted in 2017," and feels that "the South African wine scene has never been more exciting or more diverse".
